Bio

Raffaello Pacini is an analogue collage artist based in Cagliari. His works are mainly born with clippings from fashion, motor or technology magazines, simply glued on paper.

Born in 1985 in Massa Marittima, Tuscany, he started using this technique in 2011, intrigued by a newspaper article about Richard Hamilton and his famous collage “Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing?”. From that moment, under the alter-ego “DisastrART Collages” he began to cut, tear and engrave paper, initially creating pop and surrealist works, born more with instinct than with technique, made with few clippings.

After a long period of inactivity, in 2021 on the ashes of DisastrART Raffaello returns to the game without pseudonyms. Now his works are inspired by the fantastic, the world of folklore and fairy tales, with a nod to the iconography of Heavy Metal band artwork, a great passion of him. He prefers to work on large formats to strike the viewer’s eye with great colored details full of hidden meanings. Raffaello considers every single clipping as a tree and his collages then become intricate mysterious woods, so that the observer can stop at the edge of the forest to understand whether or not to cross that fleeting border between reality, the unknown and dreams.

He collaborated with the collectives “Gli Informali”, “Officina CLAN” and “Primavera nel Cervello” and with the association “Corte dei Miracoli – Center of Contemporary Cultures of Siena”. Some of his works have been published on “Rapsodia – Independent literary magazine” and on the web magazine “Maremma Libertaria”. In additions to events in Italy, Raffaello has exhibited in international shows in the Netherlands, Ireland and Greece.
